Education and Training

Alcohol Service Training -

Would you like to…

  • Receive discounts on your liquor liability insurance?
  • Prevent liquor law violations and fines?
  • Protect your establishment against multi-million dollar lawsuits?
  • Increase sales through the responsible service of alcohol?
  • Provide better customer service while enhancing public relations?

What would you do if…

  • An intoxicated spectator is offending other patrons?
  • A patron leaves happy hour too drunk to drive but refuses a cab?
  • A customer attempts to purchase alcohol with a fake ID?
  • A private party host tells your staff to serve everyone - regardless of age?

Through our partnerships with local law enforcement across North Dakota, the ND Hospitality Association can offer training to your employees that answers all of these questions, and provides these benefits.  contact us via email or phone at 701-223-3313 for more details.

Food Safety Training - Through our partnership with the National Restaurant Association, the NDHA offers members discounted materials and exams for the ServSafe Food Safety program.  Contact us for details regarding ServSafe training or certification.

General Information - The NDHA is your point of contact for information regarding the hospitality industry in North Dakota.  If you have a question, we have the answer, or we can find it for you.  We have access to experts from across the country, from groups like the National Restaurant Association, Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S., and national hotel and lodging groups that can find an answer for your questions.  The association is our members’ one stop shop for information regarding:

  • Current labor laws and tip reporting requirements
  • Worker’s Compensation or Health Department requirements

  • New gaming regulations

  • Personnel policies and regulations

  • Minimum wage and tip credit requirements

  • State or Federal legislative or regulatory issues

BARS Program - The BARS Program, is the nation’s only service that monitors employee carding practices. The BARS Program discourages underage purchases of alcohol and tobacco. This is a solution to retailer’s self-regulating.

The BARS Program is a private, non-governmental program that provides retailers with the benefits of self monitoring compliance checks. It has proven to change employee habits and awareness of requesting ID.

Here’s how the program works:

  • The BARS Program will send a shopper (ages 21 to 25) unannounced to stores and do a compliance check.
  • The employee checked will be notified immediately with a “red” or “green” card and the owner will be notified by the ND Hospitality Association of a negative check.

We believe a pro-active business driven approach like The BARS Program will have a positive impact on reducing illegal sales to minors. It sends a strong message that retailers want to address this issue and are willing to finance a positive approach, rather than licensing and penalties.

Contact us to get started on the BARS program at your business.
